An Australian jury has convicted British social media celebrity and rapper Yung Filly of assaulting a fan following a music performance two years ago. The 30-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was found guilty of two assault charges related to biting a woman but was acquitted of allegations of rape and choking.
The verdicts were delivered Friday in the District Court of Western Australia state in Perth. Barrientos had pleaded not guilty to six charges of rape, three charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, and one count of choking in a Perth hotel room in September 2024. The accuser, who was 20 at the time, cannot legally be named.
The jury deliberated for three days before reaching its decision. Barrientos testified during the eight-day trial that the bites were "love bites" and denied that his victim had complained of being hurt. He was found not guilty on some charges, and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on three rape charges, which could potentially lead to a retrial.
Prosecutors had alleged that the woman initially consented to sexual activity but later withdrew her consent, fearing for her safety. Evidence presented to the court included photos of the woman with bruising and bite marks on her face and neck.
Barrientos, who is Colombian-born, had been touring Australia and performed in Sydney and Melbourne before the incident in Perth. He was arrested several days later in Brisbane. He has been free on bail since his charges and was permitted to return to Britain for several months. He remains free on bail until his case returns to court on August 21 to discuss next steps.
