The family of Pete and Fran Gillam, a British couple residing in Bédar, southern Spain, has confirmed their deaths in recent wildfires that devastated the region. The village of Bédar bore the brunt of the fires.

Their daughter, Danielle Gillam-Kirton, shared the news on Facebook, stating the family is "heartbroken" to have received confirmation from the police that her parents did not survive the blaze. The family had been searching for the couple since Thursday, after the couple's mother texted her daughter to say they were evacuating. No further communication was received.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed it is supporting British nationals affected by the wildfires and their families, and is in close contact with Spanish authorities.

Ms. Gillam-Kirton expressed the family's struggle to come to terms with the "devastating news" and requested privacy during their time of grief. She conveyed gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. Wildfires in the Almeria province, where Bédar is located, caused significant destruction.
