Body Found on Eastbourne Beach After Coastguard Search
Authorities confirm the death is not suspicious and next of kin have been notified.
The body of a woman, reportedly wearing a wetsuit, was discovered on a beach in Eastbourne on Saturday morning, a day after coastguards conducted a search of the area. Emergency services were alerted to the discovery near the pier around 8 a.m. on October 3.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing coastguards scouring the waters off Eastbourne on Friday afternoon. A spokesperson for the RNLI stated that the inshore lifeboat was deployed on Friday afternoon after Solent Coastguard requested assistance with a multi-agency search for unattended items found west of Eastbourne.
The search efforts on Friday involved the RNLI inshore lifeboat, local Coastguard Rescue Teams from Birling Gap and Eastbourne, the coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 363', and officers from Sussex Police.
Sussex Police confirmed they were called to Marine Parade, Eastbourne, at approximately 8:18 a.m. on Saturday following the report of a deceased woman found on the beach. A police spokesperson stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious and that the woman's next of kin have been informed. A report is being prepared for HM Coroner.
