Police are investigating the discovery of a body inside a suitcase found in bushland near a rural road in Oallen, New South Wales. A couple on a scenic weekend drive reported the grim find to authorities on Sunday at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time.

Officers responded to the location on Wolgon Road and confirmed the presence of human remains, believed to be those of a woman, within the suitcase. A crime scene has been established, and the suitcase has been secured for forensic examination as detectives launch an investigation.

According to Superintendent Linda Bradbury, the discovery was made by chance when the couple stopped for a break during their drive. "Quite a shocking discovery for them, absolutely," Bradbury told Nine News.

The condition of the remains suggests they had been in the remote location for some time. The area's remoteness presents challenges for the investigation, including a lack of mobile phone signal, which hinders the ability to trace nearby devices, and minimal CCTV coverage.

Authorities are working to identify the deceased and are appealing for information from the public. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or along the Hume Highway in recent days is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
