A massive fire tore through the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok early Monday, killing at least 27 people and injuring numerous others, officials reported.

The blaze erupted around midnight, according to rescuers cited by The Associated Press. Video footage shared by first responders depicted flames engulfing the front of the building and thick black smoke rising into the sky as people tried to exit.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within approximately 30 minutes. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated at the scene that 27 fatalities had been confirmed and that several injured individuals were transported to a hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. A musician performing at the pub told the prime minister that they observed smoke emanating from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the power failed. The prime minister indicated that an explosion was heard moments later, followed by the rapid spread of dense smoke throughout the venue. Many victims were found in the restrooms at the rear of the pub.

Photos from the aftermath reveal extensive damage within the building.

This incident follows a history of deadly fires at nightlife venues in Thailand. In 2022, a fire at a music pub in eastern Thailand resulted in 14 deaths.
