Bali police have identified four Australian nationals they allege were involved in the fatal assault of a Perth grandfather, Paul Dougan, outside a Kuta bar in August. The suspects, identified by the initials RGG, PAM, JRM, and TRZ, have reportedly returned to Australia.
Mr. Dougan, a British national living in Australia, was on holiday with friends when he was allegedly confronted and severely beaten by the group at the One Tribe Bar. He sustained critical injuries, including internal bleeding, 10 broken ribs, and had his spleen removed. After being hospitalized in critical condition and undergoing multiple surgeries, Mr. Dougan died on August 20, approximately 10 days after the attack.
Denpasar police spokesman Gede Adi Saputra Jaya stated that the suspects were identified through CCTV footage and facial recognition technology. Police are now working with Indonesia's international police division and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to secure their arrests and facilitate extradition to Bali to face legal proceedings.
"We will coordinate across countries regarding the technical procedures for securing or bringing the suspects back to Indonesia, so they can face the legal consequences for what they allegedly did in our jurisdiction," Jaya said. He confirmed that intensive official communication is underway, although no arrests have yet been confirmed. Police are seeking to obtain the suspects' data, including flight records, through immigration authorities.
Mr. Dougan, affectionately known as 'Rabbit', was a father and grandfather. His family traveled to Bali to be by his side and faced mounting medical bills exceeding $70,000, which were partially covered by a fundraiser. Following his death, his son Liam expressed his grief and thanked supporters, stating, "They will be found and there will be justice. But none of this will bring Dad back."
The Gosnells Football Club, where Mr. Dougan was a member, posted a tribute calling him a "much-loved father, grandfather and member of the wider Gosnells community."
