Authorities Name Baby Found on Welsh Shoreline 'Ceri' in Search for Mother
Police are appealing for information and urging the infant's mother to come forward, offering specialized support.
Authorities have named a baby girl, whose body was discovered washed up on a shoreline in Bangor, Gwynedd, as Ceri. The remains were found by a member of the public on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27.
North Wales Police confirmed the infant's name on Thursday and have continued their appeal for information as they seek to identify her parents and understand the circumstances surrounding her death. A post-mortem examination suggests the baby may have been in the water for several weeks. Police are working with experts to analyze findings from specialized tests, hoping to uncover new leads.
Superintendent Llinos Daves urged residents, particularly those who regularly walk dogs in the Ashley Fields area of Bangor since August 30, to come forward. Authorities are also requesting any photos or videos taken along the Menai Strait shoreline in Siliwen within the same timeframe be uploaded to the major incident public portal.
A dedicated phoneline has been established for Ceri's mother to contact the authorities. Fiona Giraud, director of midwifery and women's services for Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, directly appealed to the mother, emphasizing that specialists are available to offer support regardless of the circumstances. "Please, if you are seeing this message, call or text 07974 241223," Giraud stated. "When you call, you will speak directly to a trained specialist whose role is simply to listen and help. This is not a conversation you need to be afraid of. You will be treated with compassion, dignity and respect."
Police are also seeking information from the community regarding any recent concerns for a woman or girl. Superintendent Daves clarified that the intention is not to make assumptions or accusations, stating that seemingly insignificant details might be crucial to discovering the truth for baby Ceri. Those with information can contact police by calling 101, referencing Operation Melex, or via the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/60NWP26G07-PO1.
