Authorities are investigating a series of unidentified objects that washed ashore on beaches in Far North Queensland over the weekend. The Queensland Fire Department issued a warning Sunday afternoon regarding the discoveries, primarily located north of Townsville, particularly around Forrest Beach.
Queensland Fire and Rescue crews are assisting partner agencies in the investigation. Specialist QFR Scientific teams worked throughout the weekend to safely secure several items and remain on scene. A 50-meter exclusion zone is still in effect.
Images show the objects are large, circular, and gray, with pipes visible on the top and bottom. At least four such objects have been found. Beachgoers in the affected area have been advised to avoid any suspicious items. The fire department urged the public, "If you come across any suspicious objects in the area, do not touch them. Move away and call Triple Zero (000) immediately."
The nature and origin of the debris are currently under investigation, and the fire department has not provided specific details on what the objects might be.
Online commenters have speculated that the objects could be hydrazine propellant bladder tanks, which are used to transport highly toxic hydrazine fuel for spacecraft and satellites. Other theories suggest they might be related to a drug smuggling operation or commercial fishing equipment.
