An Australian woman is in a significant financial struggle to return home from Bali following a serious scooter accident that occurred during a wedding celebration.
Amy Donohue has accumulated a medical bill totaling $30,000. The bride of the wedding, a friend of Ms. Donohue, initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her friend's medical care and transportation back to Australia.
"What should have been a beautiful trip has turned into something none of us could ever have imagined," reads the description on the fundraising page. "We are now doing everything we possibly can to arrange the care and transport needed to bring Amy home safely to Australia."
The GoFundMe organizers stated that the primary focus is ensuring Ms. Donohue receives the necessary care and returns home safely. They noted that the costs associated with emergency evacuation, hospital treatment, ongoing medical care, and repatriation are becoming overwhelming.
Ms. Donohue, who runs a healing studio called "The Healing Cottage" on the Gold Coast, was in Bali to attend the wedding. Social media posts suggest the celebrations were extensive, with one comment referring to them as a "week-long bender."
Her professional profile describes her as a qualified Remedial Massage Therapist, Reiki Master, and Shamanic Healer with a strong interest in holistic healing. Her social media also indicates she is an active traveler, having previously visited Greece and Croatia, and is a devoted aunt.
