An Australian tourist, identified as 27-year-old Bill Aspinall, was arrested at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday night while attempting to board a flight back to Brisbane. The arrest followed a manhunt initiated after Aspinall was allegedly caught engaging in a sex act with a woman outside a local residence.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening in Tibubeneng village, North Kuta. The homeowner discovered the couple engaged in the act in her yard while on her way to prayer. According to reports, she shouted at them to stop, but the pair continued for approximately 15 minutes before casually leaving the scene. CCTV footage captured the alleged public indecency.
Immigration officials, in coordination with Badung Police, detained Aspinall as he attempted to depart the island. Muhamad Novyandri, Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, confirmed that the investigation into the alleged offense is a police matter but stated that Immigration supported law enforcement efforts by flagging Aspinall as a person of interest, which prevented his departure.
Immigration authorities are continuing to cooperate with police to locate the alleged female perpetrator and monitor legal proceedings. They are prepared to impose immigration sanctions if any violations of immigration regulations are established. In Bali, public sexual intercourse is traditionally believed to bring negative energy to a property, often requiring a cleansing ceremony by the homeowner, as reportedly occurred in this instance.
The homeowner expressed that such indecent acts have the potential to cause public concern and negatively affect the image of security and tourism in the North Kuta area if not addressed seriously.
