Two Australian holidaymakers posted a video on TikTok showing what they said was a fly infestation in the bathroom of a five‑star hotel, drawing more than 30,000 views and hundreds of comments.

In footage shared on the account @themidmessess, the travellers pan the camera across a hotel bathroom where dozens of flies sit on the wall and ceiling and appear on the shower floor. One woman says the room is uninhabitable and the clip shows packed suitcases stacked on top of each other as the group deliberates whether to stay.

The video was captioned, "pov you book a 5 star hotel & it has a fly infestation," and attracted dozens of comments. Some viewers advised the travellers to leave immediately; others suggested they should have stayed at accommodation they previously posted about — a chapel they said had been run by nuns.

The group, who identify themselves in other posts as Chlo, Rahnn, Luc and Char and operate the @themidmessess account, earlier posted a separate viral clip in which they realised they had booked a chapel rather than their intended lodging. In that earlier video, the travellers were met by a woman in traditional religious clothing and led through a property described by the group as sprawling, with wide corridors and glossy tiles, before being shown a neon blue‑lit sleeping space containing a life‑sized statue.

In the newest clip, one person pictured on a phone can be heard saying, "I'm not staying here," while another points out the insects. Viewers posted a mix of reactions; one comment quoted in the clip read, "Things go wrong for a reason, I’d be finding the next flight home ASAP," and another said, "You girls should just stay at home at this point." Several users suggested the travellers would have been better off staying at the chapel hosted by nuns.

The group did not provide an immediate follow‑up on whether they relocated to different accommodation or reported the problem to hotel staff. The hotel involved was not identified in the video or in the group’s public posts.

Reports of pest problems in hotels typically prompt investigations by property managers and, in some jurisdictions, public health or environmental health authorities; such inquiries can consider sanitation, waste management and building maintenance. Travel social media accounts frequently document unexpected or unusual experiences, and clips from @themidmessess have previously circulated widely online after the chapel booking went viral.

The TikTok account’s posts and viewer responses illustrate how social platforms continue to shape travellers’ experiences and public perceptions of hospitality providers, while public complaints captured on video can lead to rapid attention and, in some cases, official responses from hotels or local authorities.
