Millions of Australians are advised to prepare for a cold and wet week as a high-pressure system off the southeast coast directs a series of fronts and troughs across the country. The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts showers for much of eastern and southeastern Australia, with some areas in Western Australia also anticipating rain.
Meteorologist Dean Narramore indicated that showers would continue across eastern Australia on Tuesday before spreading to South Australia, Victoria, and northern Tasmania. Other regions are expected to remain dry and cool to mild, with warmer conditions in the north.
By Wednesday, showers are expected to persist over Tasmania, Victoria, and the eastern coast, with new showers developing along the west coast. The remainder of the country is predicted to experience dry, cool, and mostly sunny weather under high pressure.
The wet weather is anticipated to begin easing on Thursday, with a cloud band potentially stretching across the country. This band could bring light rain from the Pilbara through South Australia and into New South Wales, while showers in the east and Victoria are expected to diminish. Elsewhere, conditions are forecast to be dry with partial cloud cover.
Friday is expected to see patchy rain continue across inland Western Australia, South Australia, and inland New South Wales. A weak front may bring showers to Tasmania and Victoria, with dry conditions anticipated in other areas.
Specific forecasts for major cities include Sydney experiencing its coldest day of the week on Wednesday with a low of 10 degrees Celsius and a 10% chance of rain. Melburnians can expect similar cool conditions to Monday, with a low of 9 degrees Celsius on Friday alongside mostly sunny skies. Brisbane is forecast to have lows of 12 degrees Celsius on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
The wet weather is largely expected to clear by Saturday, meaning the conditions may not significantly disrupt weekend plans for most.
