Gardaí, the Irish police force, have arrested a man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s in connection with a suspected arson attack that resulted in the deaths of four family members in Waterford. The two individuals are currently being held at a police station in the eastern part of the Republic of Ireland.
The victims, identified as Kim English, Philip English, and their two children, nine-year-old Jayden and 12-year-old Callum, died after their home on Birch Avenue, located on the outskirts of Waterford, was set on fire on Tuesday.
Two other children who were present in the house at the time of the incident remain in critical condition at a hospital in Crumlin, Dublin. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the four deceased family members, but the results are being withheld for operational reasons. Investigators are appealing for anyone with information regarding the incident, described as a "murderous attack," to come forward. They are also seeking dashcam footage from the relevant period.
