Arctic Wolf Attacks Child at German Wildlife Park

An 8-year-old girl sustained critical head injuries after an Arctic wolf attacked her during a special zookeeper event on October 28 at Wildpark Johannismühle, located near Baruth/Mark, Germany. The incident occurred while caretakers were providing water to animals within the enclosure.

First responders treated the girl at the scene before she was airlifted to a hospital in Berlin. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed. Two other girls were present in the enclosure at the time of the attack, but the animal caretaker reportedly took actions to protect them.

Chaplains are providing emotional support to four individuals, including three children, who were affected by the incident. An investigation into the attack is underway, with authorities including the Lower Nature Conservation Authority and the Veterinary and Food Surveillance Office reviewing a police report to determine the next steps. The Veterinary and Food Surveillance Office is also scheduled to conduct an on-site animal welfare control at the park.
