A 3-foot alligator entered a North Carolina bagel shop last week, causing a stir among employees. The reptile entered Bagel Dock Express in Southport through a back door that had been left open.
Surveillance footage showed the alligator moving through the stock room, into the kitchen, and then to the front of the shop. The shop's owner, Jesse Driscoll, spotted the alligator behind the counter and alerted another man.
"It’s just so far out of the ordinary for a bagel shop," Driscoll told WWAY News. "You can see lots of things. People coming in. Friends coming in to say hi. But, never in a million years did I think I’d see an alligator."
Driscoll contacted 911, and the alligator was safely removed by Southport police and Animal Protective Services. The Southport Police Department shared photos of the animal on social media, joking, "Alligator- Isle 1."
Bagel Dock Express also commented on social media, stating, “Apparently, word of our fresh bagels has made its way into the swamp!” The shop added, “No injuries, no drama … just one very unusual customer! Fresh bagels. Wild experiences.”
