Security staff at Aberdeen Airport are set to begin a 14-day strike on Monday, escalating a dispute over pay. The Unite union announced the industrial action after negotiations with employer ICTS HBS Security, facilitated by the conciliation service Acas, failed to reach an agreement.
The strikes will involve baggage screening staff, and the union is warning of potential significant delays for travelers. Unite stated that its members form the majority of the baggage screening team at the airport, making their participation in the strike a serious concern for operations.
Unite members voted unanimously in favor of industrial action. The union is urging ICTS HBS Security to return to the negotiating table to resolve the pay dispute. This development follows similar strike actions at Glasgow and Edinburgh airports earlier in the summer, which were ultimately averted after new deals were reached.
