A 15-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in Moss Side, Manchester, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Officers were called to reports of a disturbance on Monton Street at about 16:30 BST on Monday involving "a number of people," GMP said. When they arrived they found the teenager with stab wounds. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A section 60 order has been authorised for the area until Tuesday afternoon, giving officers the power to stop and search people in the vicinity, GMP said. The force described the incident as "tragic and upsetting" and said specially trained officers would be supporting the victim's family and friends.

"Our thoughts are with the victim's family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident, and our specially trained officers will be supporting them at this difficult time," Chief Superintendent David Meeney said in a statement. He added that the incident would understandably cause "shock and concern within the community and the surrounding area, particularly those who witnessed it."

Detectives said enquiries are ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact Greater Manchester Police. Witnesses who were in the area at the time or who may have mobile phone or dash‑cam footage have been asked to come forward to assist the investigation.

No further details about arrests or suspects were released by the force. Police will continue to deploy officers in Moss Side while inquiries proceed and the section 60 order remains in force.

The incident adds to community concerns about youth violence in the city. GMP said it would provide additional updates as investigators gather evidence and speak to witnesses.
