11 Injured in Shooting Outside Turkish High School
Attacker apprehended after opening fire near school in Manisa province; motive unclear.
At least 11 people were injured in a shooting outside the Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turkey's western province of Manisa on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. local time.
The attacker was apprehended by authorities following the incident. Local media reported that two of the injured were in critical condition and transported to a hospital. CCTV footage circulating online appeared to show a male carrying a firearm in the vicinity of the school. Additional clips reportedly showed the individual fleeing the scene while still in possession of the weapon.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Turkish media has suggested the gunman may be a 15-year-old student, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Turkey's Ministry of National Education issued a statement expressing deep sadness over the event, particularly within the educational community. The ministry confirmed that three national investigators have been dispatched to Manisa to look into the incident.
