Alexander Zverev secured his second Grand Slam title of the season by defeating American Ben Shelton in the US Open final. In his post-match remarks, Zverev made a notable comment directed at Rodman, who is Shelton's girlfriend and a prominent figure in women's soccer.

"Trinity, I thought you had a game today, no? Well done to you as well. You’re the lucky charm," Zverev said after his four-set victory over Shelton. He added, "Not today, but usually."

Rodman, a star player for the Washington Spirit, had a game of her own earlier that day in Washington D.C. before traveling to Queens, New York, to attend the US Open final. The match began at 1 p.m. in Washington D.C., while the US Open final commenced at 2 p.m. in New York. Despite a tight schedule, Rodman was present to support Shelton.

Shelton's appearance in the final marked a significant moment for American tennis. Had he won, he would have been the first American man to win a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick in 2003. Additionally, he would have been the first Black player to win the men's singles crown since Arthur Ashe in 1968.

Rodman had been a supportive presence throughout Shelton's US Open run. Her attendance at the final, despite her own professional commitments, was noted by Zverev, who has had a highly successful year in tennis.
