Zelenskyy: Ukraine Received No Early Warning on Kyiv Missile Strike

Ukraine did not receive advance intelligence from its partners regarding a Russian ballistic missile strike on Kyiv, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Tuesday. The barrage saw five missiles hit civilian infrastructure in the capital.

Zelenskyy described the attack as "particularly vile" and emphasized that early warnings about ballistic missiles from allies "help save lives." He did not assign blame for the absence of such intelligence.

Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine has seen intensified aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities. These assaults include fast-moving ballistic missiles and high-altitude drones. Since Monday evening, Russia has launched more than 100 weapons against Ukraine, Zelenskyy reported.

Among the damage was a residential building in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, which was destroyed, resulting in four fatalities despite an all-night rescue operation, he said. Russia has increasingly targeted civilian infrastructure, such as energy facilities, aiming to disrupt power, heat, and water during the conflict.

Ukraine has, in turn, conducted strikes against Russian energy sites, including oil refineries, sometimes deep within Russian territory. These actions have occurred despite requests from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump for Ukraine to refrain from such attacks.

Trump has previously linked Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy sites to U.S. diesel prices and announced a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to import diesel from Russia to lower fuel costs. Trump claimed on Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an "energy ceasefire," in which both sides would cease attacks on each other's energy infrastructure.

Russia has not confirmed the existence of such a deal. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated Tuesday that "contacts on this matter continue." Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine had not attacked Russian oil refineries or other energy sites in the two days following Trump's announcement. He criticized Moscow for continuing attacks on Ukrainian energy and critical infrastructure since the purported deal.

"These are absolutely clear signals that they have no intention of refraining from strikes on Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.

Russian strikes across Ukraine caused injuries and deaths overnight Monday and into Tuesday. In addition to the four deaths in Kharkiv, 41 people were wounded in the city during one evening. A woman was injured in a Russian strike on a private home in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district. A Russian drone hit a residential building in the village of Murovane, near Lviv. One person was killed and at least two others were injured in the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region. An educational institution in the center of Rivne was struck by a Russian drone, wounding 14 people.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated Tuesday that its forces conducted coordinated strikes using precision weapons and drones against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, logistics centers, railway and port infrastructure, and vessels carrying military cargo. The ministry also reported hitting a bulk carrier headed for Mykolaiv with military cargo in the Dnieper and Bug rivers estuary.
