Zelenskyy Reports Call With Trump, Agreement to Meet

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday that he held a conversation with former President Donald Trump, describing it as "important" and stating that they agreed to meet in New York. Zelenskyy shared this information via a social media post, suggesting the planned meeting "could change a lot."

During their discussion, Zelenskyy indicated that "a lot" was covered, and that "diplomatic momentum" is present. He also extended his gratitude to Trump for a recent visit to Kyiv by presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, described as the president's son-in-law. Zelenskyy stated that the U.S. delegation reviewed key details and observed the situation in Ukraine firsthand, emphasizing that "the peace track is our number one priority."

Zelenskyy further noted that ideas were discussed regarding de-escalation and addressing critical security issues, including energy and food security, as well as the protection of human life. He affirmed that Ukraine is "working together with the American team and are ready to take really serious steps."

Additionally, Zelenskyy thanked Trump for signing the Lindsey Graham bill into law. This legislation, passed by Congress this month, imposes sanctions on Russia and countries that support its invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy concluded his post by reiterating that "there must be peace" and expressing thanks to "everyone who stands with Ukraine."
