Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in Washington D.C. to press for continued and bolstered U.S. support for Kyiv's air defense systems, particularly as Russia intensifies its aerial attacks. Zelensky is expected to meet with former President Donald Trump to discuss these needs.

The visit comes as Ukraine has faced an escalation in deadly attacks from Russia. Zelensky aims to solidify commitments from the U.S. to enhance Kyiv's anti-ballistic missile capabilities, crucial for defending against the sustained aerial assaults.

This visit also occurs amid broader geopolitical tensions. Ukraine has identified Iran as a "direct accomplice to Russian aggression against Ukraine." Zelensky has stated that Ukrainian intelligence possesses evidence of Russia sharing satellite imagery with Tehran, potentially enabling Iran to target U.S. military facilities and Gulf states. Trump has indicated he would inquire about these claims, though he suggested such a development would have no impact.

Meanwhile, Russia has also reported increased drone activity. Moscow's mayor stated that over 390 Ukrainian drones targeted the region between Monday evening and Tuesday morning local time, with most intercepted by air defenses. Damage to a high-rise building in Chekhov and a fire at a warehouse in Berezhki were reported, though local officials confirmed no casualties in Chekhov.

Since Zelensky's last conversation with Trump in early July, Ukrainian forces have focused on targeting logistics hubs within Russia, including those belonging to e-commerce companies like Wildberries. These actions have reportedly exacerbated supply chain issues for small and medium-sized businesses in various parts of Russia.

Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are both in Washington, with their visits coinciding with the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham. Their presence in the U.S. capital highlights interconnected diplomatic efforts amid regional conflicts.
