Zelensky Says Ukraine Received No Warning of Russian Strikes Amid Trump's Russia Comments

Ukrainian officials did not receive advance notification from partners regarding the latest Russian assaults on civilian sites in Kyiv, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. His remarks came early Tuesday, following what he described as a "particularly vile" attack.

Zelensky did not attribute the lack of warning to any specific nation or leader. However, his comments followed statements made by U.S. President Trump to reporters, in which Trump suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin is more eager for a deal than Zelensky and downplayed Ukraine's assertions of Russian ceasefire violations.

"Intelligence on Russian ballistic missile launches helps save lives, and this is one of the most critical issues. This is precisely what helps prevent people from being killed – when there is an early warning about ballistic missiles," Zelensky stated on the social platform X.

Zelensky reported that Russia had launched over 100 weapons against Ukraine since Monday evening. He noted that a residential building in the northeastern city of Kharkiv was destroyed, resulting in four fatalities despite ongoing rescue efforts.

Russia has increasingly targeted civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, aiming to disrupt power, heat, and water for Ukrainians during the ongoing conflict. This strategy is intended to erode public support for Ukraine's defense against Moscow's invasion.

Ukraine, conversely, has conducted strikes on Russian energy sites, such as oil refineries, sometimes deep within Russian territory. These actions have occurred despite requests from President Trump to cease such attacks.

"Ukraine has not carried out strikes on Russian oil refineries or the energy sector in general for the two days since the American President announced an energy ceasefire. But Russia did not heed the American President," Zelensky asserted Tuesday. "During this time, the Russians have attacked both our energy facilities and our critical infrastructure, sending absolutely clear signals that they have no intention of refraining from strikes on Ukraine... Our position remains unchanged: Ukraine is ready for reciprocal steps toward de-escalation, and effective pressure on Russia is needed to make de-escalation happen. Wars end when the aggressor realizes that it cannot prolong the war."

Russian officials and media have not reported Ukrainian attacks on oil refineries since Trump announced the energy truce on Sunday.

President Trump told reporters on Monday evening that "there have been violations on both sides" and urged both leaders to find a resolution to "end that ridiculous war." He also stated that Russia had lost 32,000 people in the war, calling the situation "ridiculous."

In addition to the four deaths in Kharkiv, 41 people were injured in the city from Monday night into Tuesday morning, according to Zelensky. A woman was wounded in a Russian strike on a private home in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, and a Russian drone hit a residential building in Murovane, near Lviv, during a morning attack Tuesday.

In the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region, one person was killed and at least two others were injured in a Russian attack. Furthermore, a Russian drone struck an educational institution in Rivne, injuring 14 people.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated Tuesday that its forces carried out coordinated strikes overnight using ground-based precision weapons and drones targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, logistics centers, railway and port infrastructure, and vessels involved in delivering military cargo. The ministry also claimed a bulk carrier carrying military cargo was hit in the Dnieper and Bug rivers estuary.

Separately, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its air defenses shot down 604 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions and the Sea of Azov overnight. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 417 drones targeted the Moscow region, with most being intercepted away from the capital, although 65 approached the city. The Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow, reported damage to a school, two private houses, and a car due to drone attacks.
