A popular pair of Zara satin trousers, retailing for $39.95, has become the subject of numerous online warnings as women report experiencing falls and even injuries while wearing the garment. The trousers, made of 100% polyester with a wide, flowing leg, are being blamed for incidents where the fabric allegedly wraps around shoes, causing wearers to trip.
Social media platforms have seen an increase in videos and posts detailing these accidents. One Australian woman, who posted on Instagram under the handle @stephaniesworld, shared her experience of ending up in the hospital after falling in the pants, which she described as "trip-hazard trousers." Her post garnered significant attention, prompting many other users to share similar accounts.
The comments sections under these posts have become a space for users to share their own experiences. Many expressed relief at discovering they were not alone in their struggles with the trousers. "Omg, I fell recently. They just slip round," one user commented, while another stated, "I had just put my daughter down or I would have crashed with her too!"
Some users reported more serious consequences. "I broke my big toe wearing my Zara trousers!" one woman claimed. Another shared, "Smashed my knees! I feel like I'm dicing with death every time I wear them now. But I love them." Another recounted falling "onto concrete on all fours" after a gust of wind caught the fabric, causing her shoe to get tangled in the other leg.
These incidents have led many wearers to question the safety of the popular design. While some continue to enjoy the trousers' aesthetic, they have adopted coping mechanisms such as wearing platform shoes, hemming the legs, or avoiding the pants altogether after experiencing near-falls or actual tumbles. One user mentioned throwing the pants away due to safety concerns. The Daily Mail reached out to Zara for comment regarding these online claims but had not received a response at the time of publication.
