Zachary Levi Stars in ‘Angel and the Badman’ Remake Opening This Weekend
The new western, a reimagining of the 1947 John Wayne film, is currently only available in theaters.
Zachary Levi is taking on the iconic role of a gunman in the new film Angel and the Badman, a remake of the 1947 John Wayne western, which opens in U.S. theaters on Friday, October 9.
Directed by Julio Quintana, the 2026 version features Levi as an injured outlaw who is nursed back to health by a compassionate young rancher's daughter, portrayed by Meg Fraser. The cast also includes Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, and Jean Louisa Kelly. The film is distributed by Angel Studios, known for faith-based and conservative-valued productions.
Currently, Angel and the Badman is exclusively available for viewing in movie theaters. Showings can be found via Fandango. The movie is not yet available for streaming or digital purchase.
While it is possible the film may eventually be available on platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, it will not be until after its theatrical run and subsequent digital release. Angel and the Badman is not a Netflix original, and Angel Studios has not had previous films stream on Netflix since its launch in 2021, making a Netflix release unlikely in the near future.
The film is also not a Prime original, meaning it will not be available to stream for free with a Prime subscription. It may become available for rent or purchase on Prime Video at a later date, following its digital release.
No official digital release date has been announced for Angel and the Badman. However, based on past releases from Angel Studios, such as Young Washington, which became available digitally about a month after its theatrical debut, Angel and the Badman could potentially be available on video-on-demand in mid-to-late November 2026. Angel Guild members may also have access to the film on the Angel Studios website around the same time, with membership tiers starting at $12 per month or $119 annually.
However, these timelines are speculative, as other Angel Studios films have taken over three months to reach digital platforms, and some remain exclusive to the Angel Studios website for guild members. For immediate viewing, attending a theatrical screening is the only option. The original 1947 film Angel and the Badman is available to watch for free on Tubi.
