Zach Ertz Returns to Philadelphia Eagles Practice Squad
Veteran tight end signed amid injury to starter Dallas Goedert, nearing franchise reception record.
The Philadelphia Eagles have signed veteran tight end Zach Ertz to their practice squad, bringing the Super Bowl LII hero back to the team. The move comes after starting tight end Dallas Goedert suffered a sprained MCL in Sunday's victory over the Tennessee Titans.
Goedert is expected to miss several weeks, and the Eagles' depth at the tight end position was further depleted with backup tight ends Eli Stowers and Grant Calcaterra already on injured reserve. Developmental tight end E.J. Jenkins and practice squad veteran Joshua Deguara were the remaining healthy options.
Ertz, 35, spent nine seasons with the Eagles before departing in 2021. He is second in franchise history with 579 receptions and needs just 11 more to surpass Harold Carmichael's record of 589 and become the Eagles' all-time leader in catches. During his time with the Washington Commanders in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Ertz recorded 50 receptions for 504 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games in his most recent season before a late knee injury.
Placing Ertz on the practice squad allows him time to regain conditioning before a potential elevation to the active roster.
