Zach Ertz Returns to Eagles Practice Squad
Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad, returning to the team he played for from 2013 to 2021.
Free agent tight end Zach Ertz is signing a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, returning to the organization where he played from 2013 to 2021. Ertz is expected to join the practice squad and eventually be elevated to the 53-man roster.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Ertz is anticipated to be ready for the Eagles' "Monday Night Football" game against the Chicago Bears next week. This move comes as the Eagles are dealing with an injury to their current tight end, Dallas Goedert.
Goedert suffered a sprained MCL and is expected to miss several weeks. He sustained the injury in the second quarter of the Eagles' 24-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans, during which he had one catch for four yards.
Ertz spent the previous two seasons with the Washington Commanders, but his 2025 season was cut short due to an ACL tear in his right knee during a game on December 7 against the Minnesota Vikings.
The 35-year-old Ertz is close to breaking the Eagles' franchise record for receptions, needing 11 more to surpass Harold Carmichael's mark of 589. During his tenure with the Eagles, Ertz won a Super Bowl title in 2017 and was selected to three Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019.
The Eagles drafted Ertz in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He remained with the team until he was traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the 2021 season. He played two and a half seasons in Arizona before signing with the Commanders in 2024.
