YouTuber Fishing in Arizona River Reels in Backpack Containing Gun
A social media influencer discovered a backpack with two phones and a Glock 20 while fishing, which was later identified as lost property from nearly a year prior.
A YouTuber's fishing trip on Arizona's Salt River took an unexpected turn when he reeled in a backpack containing a firearm. Porter Sanders, 24, who operates the YouTube channel 'FishingWithPorter,' captured the discovery in a video posted last week.
While navigating the river in his boat, Sanders's fishing rod snagged an unusual object. Initially mistaking it for a rock, he soon realized he had hooked a backpack. Upon opening it, Sanders found two mobile phones and, to his surprise, a gun.
Sanders immediately ceased fishing and contacted the Mesa police. He later handed the backpack and its contents to officers. According to a deputy, the department would attempt to locate the owner, but if unclaimed after 30 days, Sanders would be entitled to the property.
Officials later identified the firearm as a Glock 20 and confirmed there was no evidence of criminal activity. The owner had reportedly lost the bag at Saguaro Lake approximately one year before its discovery. The video of Sanders's unusual catch garnered over 287,000 views within six days, prompting amused reactions from viewers commenting on the unexpected find.
