Young Australian Rider Dies in Crash Months Before Wedding
Aidan Alchin, 23, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on October 5, just two months before his scheduled marriage to Miss Universe Australia state finalist Hayley Sutter.
A 23-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash in the Adelaide Hills just two months before his planned wedding. Aidan Alchin, of Salisbury Heights, was riding his motorcycle when it collided with a sedan and another car on Gorge Road at Paracombe on October 5.
Alchin was set to marry his fiancée, Hayley Sutter, a Miss Universe 2025 South Australian state finalist, on December 12. The couple had been together for five years.
Tributes have poured in for Alchin, who was described as a "caring and loyal son, brother, nephew and fiancé" and a friend "with a heart of absolute gold." He was a well-regarded member of Adelaide's motorcycle community.
Alchin had previously survived a serious motorcycle accident in 2022 that resulted in lower back injuries. This incident prompted him to leave his construction career, join his father's locksmith business, and pursue locksmithing studies.
Fellow rider Dylan Thorp noted Alchin's death serves as a "heartbreaking reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike on the road" and urged the motorcycle community to "look out for your mates, check in on one another, ride within your limits and do everything you can to make it home safely."
Alchin was also scheduled to participate in a memorial motorcycle ride on October 9 with the Two Wheel Turtles group. The group announced the ride would now also honor Alchin.
Alchin was one of two people who died on South Australian roads during the Labour Day long weekend. A separate crash on October 4 in Virginia claimed the life of a 52-year-old man.
South Australia Police Inspector Mark Atkinson appealed to motorists to "make safer choices" on the roads. "We need members of the community to ride and drive like their life depends on it, because it does," he stated. Police advised motorcyclists to ride within their capabilities, reduce speed, and adjust to road and weather conditions, while drivers were reminded to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, wear seatbelts, and refrain from impaired driving.
