Yankees' Spencer Jones Engaged at Empire State Building

New York Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones has announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Ava O’Connor. The couple shared the news on Instagram on Saturday, posting a carousel of images from the proposal at the Empire State Building and subsequent celebrations in New York City.

“Forever starts today,” the post read. “I feel like the luckiest man on Earth to propose to the most beautiful, intelligent, and sweetest woman I’ve ever met. You’ve elevated my life in so many ways & I can’t wait to take your hand in marriage. You are the brightest light in a city of endless opportunities. I truly believe the world is ours when I am with you. There is nothing we cannot do when we are together. You are so easy to love. The Joneses coming soon!”

While the exact start date of their relationship is not specified, the earliest social media posts featuring the couple appear to be from mid-2024. O’Connor publicly supported Jones earlier in May when he was promoted to the major leagues, writing on her Instagram Story, “Let’s go baby! The most deserving incredible man. I love you!”

Jones, a former top prospect, had a promising 2026 season, showing flashes of elite potential in 86 games. The 6-foot-7 outfielder posted a .245 batting average with a .313 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage, hitting 11 home runs and driving in 40 runs. A significant area for improvement noted by Jones himself was his high strikeout rate, accumulating 105 strikeouts in 289 plate appearances.

Following the Yankees’ elimination from the ALDS by the Rays, Jones expressed his intentions to improve during the offseason. “I struck out a million times this year,” Jones told The Post. “I feel like I didn’t help the team in certain contexts that way. I think defensively, I think I can get better. I think I can get faster. And then the mental side of the game — leaning on the resources we have here and making sure that I’m the best competitor when the season starts next year.”
