Yankees Reschedule Sabathia Ceremony Due to Nor'easter, Sparking Fan Outrage

The New York Yankees have rescheduled their Saturday night game against the Baltimore Orioles to Friday, September 27, due to an incoming Nor'easter expected to impact the New York region. The game will be the first of a single-admission doubleheader, with the first pitch set for 4:05 PM.

This schedule change has led to significant backlash from fans who had purchased tickets specifically for Saturday night's game, which was slated to include the retirement ceremony for Hall of Famer CC Sabathia's No. 52. Those Saturday tickets will not be honored for the rescheduled Friday game.

Fans expressed their frustration on social media, with many stating they bought tickets months in advance, at high prices, solely to witness Sabathia's ceremony. "Paid for a CC Sabathia number retirement game and now I get nothing," one fan commented on X. Another fan wrote, "Shame on the Yankees for changing CC Sabathia’s number retirement to Friday. I get the weather will be bad but I did not spend a lot of money to see the broken Yankees. I spent it to see CC Sabathia. I don’t want tickets to another game. Those tickets were a gift for my son."

The Yankees are offering ticket holders the option to exchange their Saturday tickets for a future regular-season game. However, many fans feel this does not compensate for missing the special ceremony.

Additionally, the Josh Hart Yankees bobblehead giveaway, originally scheduled for Friday night, will now be given to the first 18,000 fans attending the rescheduled Friday doubleheader. Doors for the Friday game will open at 2:30 PM, with fans encouraged to arrive by 3 PM for the Sabathia ceremony and Monument Park plaque unveiling, which is scheduled to begin at 3:15 PM.

There is also a possibility that Sunday's final regular-season game could be affected by the storm. Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the uncertainty regarding the weekend's weather, stating, "We'll see."
