Yankees-Red Sox Rivalry Boils Over in Stadium Brawl
A viral video captured a chaotic fight in the Yankee Stadium upper deck during Game 2 of the wild-card series.
Tempers flared in the stands of Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night as a significant brawl erupted between New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox fans during the Yankees' 9-2 victory, which clinched the series for New York. The incident, captured on a viral video, showed a Yankees fan in a black shirt throwing punches at a Red Sox fan in a yellow jersey.
Another Red Sox fan, appearing to be with the first, entered the fray and landed a blow to the Yankees fan's head, momentarily knocking him back. This allowed the fan in the yellow jersey to recover and retaliate. The confrontation continued with both fans exchanging blows before a Red Sox fan in a red jersey intervened, pushing the Yankees fan toward an exit. As he left, the Yankees fan directed expletives and an offensive gesture toward the Red Sox supporters.
Many onlookers in the surrounding seats did not intervene but instead recorded the fight on their phones. The intensity of the rivalry was palpable, especially as the Yankees eliminated their biggest rivals for the second consecutive season in the wild-card round.
Earlier in the evening, before the game, filmmaker Spike Lee was involved in a separate altercation with a fan in the Legends Suite. The fan reportedly asked Lee for a selfie and requested he say "F–k Palestine." Lee became angry and alerted security, leading to the fan's removal from the suite.
The Red Sox were outscored 18-2 over the two-game series. The Yankees are now set to face the Rays in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday.
