The New York Yankees staged a dramatic ninth-inning rally and ultimately secured a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night, snapping the Braves' eight-game winning streak. The win allowed the Yankees to maintain their second-place standing in the AL East, remaining a half-game ahead of the Boston Red Sox.

Trailing by two runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning, the Yankees scored two runs to tie the game before winning it in the 10th on Ryan McMahon's sacrifice fly. The victory came after a night where the Yankees' offense was largely stymied, managing only four hits through the first eight innings.

Atlanta had taken a 2-0 lead on solo home runs from Austin Riley in the eighth inning and Matt Olson in the ninth. The Braves' starting pitcher, Tyler Mahle, had delivered six shutout innings with nine strikeouts in his first start since being acquired by Atlanta at the trade deadline. Yankees starter Max Fried had also pitched well, going 6 1/3 shutout innings.

The Yankees' comeback began with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Luis García Jr. reached third base on a throwing error by Braves closer Raisel Iglesias. Austin Wells then hit an RBI double to make it 2-1, and Amed Rosario drew a walk. Ben Rice followed with a single to tie the game, and Heliot Ramos was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Braves brought in reliever Dylan Dodd, who induced a groundout to send the game into extra innings.

In the top of the 10th, the Yankees' defense held strong, with notable plays by George Lombard Jr. and Luis García Jr. to keep the Braves off the board. In the bottom of the inning, after an intentional walk to Spencer Jones and a walk to George Lombard Jr. to load the bases, McMahon hit a deep fly ball to right field, scoring García from third for the winning run.

McMahon, who had only two hits entering the ninth inning, was instrumental in the rally. The Yankees, now 65-51, avoided slipping into the second AL wild card spot and falling behind the Red Sox, who had won their ninth consecutive game earlier in the day. The Braves fell to 70-46 with the loss.
