The New York Yankees extended their losing streak to seven games following a 6-2 extra-inning loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday. An announced crowd of 37,117 watched as the Yankees' offense faltered for eight innings before a late rally in the ninth was ultimately squandered.

The game remained tied after the regulation nine innings, with the Yankees unable to capitalize on opportunities in both the ninth and tenth innings. In the eleventh, pitcher Camilo Doval struggled, allowing four runs to score. Doval walked Riley Greene intentionally, then issued a walk to Hao-Yu Lee and Spencer Torkelson, forcing in a run and giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Zach McKinstry then hit a two-run single, and another run scored on a throwing error by catcher Ali Sánchez.

The Yankees were unable to respond in the bottom of the eleventh inning against Keider Montero, prompting boos from the remaining fans.

This latest loss echoes recent extra-inning heartbreaks for the Yankees. On Sunday, they lost 5-4 to the Boston Red Sox after coming back from a deficit in the ninth inning and taking a lead in the tenth.

During Wednesday's game, the Yankees mustered only seven hits. Amed Rosario's home run in the bottom of the ninth prevented a shutout. Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a single, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Anthony Volpe singled, but was later caught stealing before the inning ended.

The Tigers' scoring in the eleventh inning occurred after Fernando Cruz pitched a scoreless tenth. In the bottom of the tenth, José Caballero executed a sacrifice bunt to move an automatic runner to third base, but the Yankees failed to score.

The Yankees are now 48-38 on the season.
