New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. engaged in an on-field display of deflection during Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles, an incident captured by replay that contradicted his claims.
In the second inning, with the score tied and runners on first and second, Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon induced a potential inning-ending double-play ball hit directly to Chisholm at second base. Instead of cleanly fielding the grounder, Chisholm mishandled the ball, which resulted in loading the bases.
Immediately after the error, Chisholm began pointing at second-base umpire Ryan Additon, appearing to blame him for the misplay. However, instant replay showed Additon positioned correctly, with the error clearly attributed to Chisholm's fumbled attempt.
Despite the bases-loaded situation, Rodon managed to escape the inning unscathed, striking out two consecutive batters to strand the runners. The Yankees went on to win the game 3-1.
The incident occurred during a difficult 2026 season for Chisholm, who entered Tuesday's game with a .216 batting average. Earlier in the season, Chisholm offered a blunt self-assessment, stating, "It sucked. I've sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves."
