Yankees Face Elimination in ALDS Game 3 Against Rays
New York looks to Max Fried to stave off elimination tonight in a crucial ALDS matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The New York Yankees face a must-win scenario in Game 3 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Tampa Bay Rays. The pivotal game is scheduled for Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees trail the best-of-five series 2-0 after dropping the first two games in Saint Petersburg.
Max Fried is set to start for the Yankees, acknowledging the high stakes of the game. "If we don't win, we go home. There's nothing else to save anything for," Fried stated. "So I understand that the leash is probably going to be pretty small, and we have to do whatever we can to win. So, for me, it's just leave everything out there."
Adding a personal element to the high-pressure situation, Fried's girlfriend is reportedly due to give birth around the same time as the game. He confirmed his intention to pitch despite the impending birth, stating, "I’ve got a really supportive family that understands that this is my job, and it’s not going to affect what happens [Wednesday]."
Fried, who holds a 5-5 record with a 2.80 ERA this season, will face Rays pitcher Nick Martinez. Martinez has a 15-6 record and a 3.10 ERA.
The Rays secured victories in Games 1 and 2. Game 1 was a tight contest highlighted by a strong pitching performance from Rays' ace Drew Rasmussen. Game 2 saw the Rays capitalize on errors to take the lead against the Yankees.
For fans without cable, the game can be streamed live on TBS. A five-day free trial of DIRECTV is available, offering access to TBS as part of its 125+ channel package. This trial can be used to watch the Yankees vs. Rays ALDS Game 3 for free.
