Yankees Extend Pitching Coach Matt Blake After Dominant Season
Blake has been instrumental in the team's pitching success over the past seven seasons.
Pitching coach Matt Blake has agreed to a contract extension with the New York Yankees, the club announced Saturday. The agreement comes after a season in which the Yankees' pitching staff led the league in ERA during the regular season and significantly lowered it in the postseason.
Blake, who has served as the Yankees' pitching coach for the past seven seasons, has been credited with developing a dominant pitching staff. In the regular season, the team posted the lowest ERA in the league at 3.23. This performance continued into the postseason, where their ERA dropped to 1.88.
The Yankees' success under Blake's guidance was highlighted by team owner Hank Steinbrenner earlier in the week. While Steinbrenner attributed the team's early exit from the playoffs to the offense, he also acknowledged the pitching staff's strong performance. Blake's extension ensures continuity for a crucial part of the team's operations as manager Aaron Boone currently works without a contract extension for the upcoming season.
