The caption suggested the proposal took place on September 3, an off day for the Yankees between series against the Angels and Padres in California.
Nielson’s Instagram post also included a photo of their daughter, Lucy. The announcement was met with congratulations from the significant others of several Yankees teammates, including Ava O’Connor, girlfriend of outfielder Spencer Jones, and Ashley, wife of pitcher Carlos Rodon.
Wells has had a season of resurgence, improving his batting average to .185 after a challenging start. Despite the early struggles, he is expected to remain a key part of the Yankees' lineup for the postseason, which is anticipated to begin next week with a wild card series against the Boston Red Sox.
In the previous postseason, Wells had a notable moment in Game 2 against the Red Sox, hitting an eighth-inning single that drove in the game-winning run, helping the Yankees even the series. The team went on to win Game 3, advancing to the next round.
