Xi Preparing China for War, Expert Warns Ahead of US Summit
A China expert voiced grave concerns about U.S.-China relations, asserting that President Xi Jinping is preparing the nation for conflict despite upcoming talks with President Donald Trump.
President Xi Jinping is actively preparing China's society and military for conflict with the United States, according to Gordon Chang, a senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute. This warning comes as Xi prepares to meet with President Donald Trump in Washington D.C. for a summit where artificial intelligence and trade are expected to be key discussion points.
Chang stated on "Fox News Live" that, despite public pronouncements of a positive relationship between the two leaders, Xi is contemplating war against the U.S. and organizing for battle. "So, this is a very dangerous period for us," Chang remarked.
The expert's assessment follows reports that China provided targeting data to Iran, which may have aided in the attacks that resulted in the deaths of three U.S. troops in Jordan. The Wall Street Journal reported that Iranian forces received satellite imagery of a Jordanian airbase from Chinese entities before the attack.
Chang criticized China for its alleged role in the incident, asserting that Trump must adopt a tougher stance. He argued that decades of open dialogue with China have been detrimental to U.S. interests. "Whatever one thinks of the strategic discussions the United States has with China, there's this moral dimension that China is deliberately killing Americans," Chang said.
This upcoming summit is anticipated to differ significantly from the leaders' previous meeting in May, given the escalation of conflict in the Middle East and the intensifying race in artificial intelligence since then.
Chang expressed skepticism about the potential for progress on AI during the meeting, suggesting that Xi would be as unwilling to compromise as he was during President Joe Biden's 2023 summit with the Chinese leader. Chang attributed Xi's inflexibility to internal party pressures and an overconfidence in China's global standing relative to the United States. "Xi Jinping is facing a turbulent Communist Party at home, which means that he can't compromise. Also, he's arrogant. He incorrectly believes that China's on the way up and the United States is on the way down and we're in terminal decline," Chang explained. "He's not very much inclined in any event to compromise with the United States."
