Xi Praises 'Perfection' of US State Visit, Trump Calls Meetings 'Productive'

Chinese President Xi Jinping described his state visit to the White House as demonstrating "perfection," while President Donald Trump characterized the meetings as "very productive" for both nations.

Speaking to reporters as he and first lady Melania Trump hosted Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea on Friday, Trump stated that they had "made great strides, very positive for both countries." Xi, through a translator, expressed his appreciation for the visit, noting "thought in every little detail" and calling it "down to the highest order of perfection."

Xi characterized his relationship with Trump as charting the course for China-U.S. relations. He recalled an agreement from a May visit to China to build a "constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability." During this visit, they agreed to "add new substance to it," aiming for a relationship based on "respect, fairness and reciprocity," which Xi believes will lead to brighter prospects.

The Chinese president indicated that further meetings would occur later in the year, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in China in November and the G20 Summit in December at Trump's Doral resort in Miami, Florida.

Trump expressed anticipation for these future discussions, stating, "We will see you and we'll be speaking a lot. I think our farmers are going to be very happy." He reiterated that "a lot of very positive things happened" and that both America and China are likely pleased with the outcomes, calling the visit "just very, very productive."

Xi arrived in Washington earlier in the week for the summit, following an agreement reached in May that included Chinese commitments on rare earths, agricultural purchases, trade, and investment. However, progress on these commitments has been uneven, and key disputes concerning tariffs, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and Taiwan remain unresolved.

Following the departure of Xi and Peng, Trump posted on Truth Social, describing the meeting as one of "Friendship, Strength, and Success, for both China and the U.S.A.," adding that "Much has been, and will be, accomplished. I look forward to our next meeting!"
