Wyoming School Mourns 11-Year-Old Killed in Rural Bicycle Crash
Liam Cox died days after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike; classmates honored him by wearing his favorite color.
St. Mary's Catholic School in Wyoming is mourning the loss of Liam Cox, an 11-year-old student who died three days after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle. The collision occurred as Liam was cycling towards Burns, a small community in Laramie County.
Liam's sister reported witnessing the incident, stating she saw his body thrown through the air after the impact. He was immediately transported to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead due to a traumatic brain injury.
In tribute to Liam, his classmates wore his favorite color, purple, to school. They also reached out to his family members, friends, and neighbors to offer support.
Liam's father, Ryan Cox, described his son as "relentlessly curious, adventurous and happy," adding that Liam "just brought happiness wherever he was." His obituary noted his "contagious" energy and listed his interests, which included fishing, biking, Pokémon, football, caring for chickens, playing with his sisters, Harry Potter, video games, his cat Samson, swimming, and roller coasters. He was remembered as a "joyous, goofy kid."
A vigil for Liam was held at the Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel. A meal train and donation page have been established by his family to help offset funeral costs, medical bills, and counseling expenses.
Liam's funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Authorities have provided limited details regarding the accident. Sheriff Brian Kozak indicated to the Cowboy State Daily that impairment was not believed to be a factor in the collision. The identity of the driver has not been publicly released. The Daily Mail has reached out to the Burns Police Department for comment.
