Wynonna Judd has responded to comedian Rosie O'Donnell's public assertion that Judd is a supporter of former President Donald Trump, stating she was "in shock" after the comment. In an interview with People, Judd clarified that O'Donnell's assessment was an "assumption" and that she has never discussed politics with the comedian.
"I’m an independent," Judd told People, adding that O'Donnell "doesn’t know anything about my stuff." While Judd did not specify her voting history in recent presidential elections, she expressed a desire to avoid drama, noting the many pressing issues facing the world.
O'Donnell, whose own long-standing public feud with Trump predates his entry into politics, explained her comments stemmed from Judd's performances at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida in 2018 and 2023. "I just thought as she has performed at Mar-a-Lago that she was [a Trump supporter]. I apologize if I was wrong," O'Donnell stated.
In August, O'Donnell had described Judd as the only Trump supporter remaining in her inner circle during an appearance on "The Tangle with Kyle Ridley" podcast. She acknowledged her deep affection for Judd, stating, "I really love her and I care about her, and ― for some reason ― I’m able to put that aside when we interact."
Judd is currently promoting "The Hard Truth," her first studio album in a decade, released on the same day as the interview. The release follows the death of her mother, Naomi Judd, approximately four years prior.
O'Donnell recently returned to the United States after a period in Ireland, having relocated following Trump's 2024 reelection. She has since returned to the New York stage, performing in her one-woman show "Common Knowledge" and preparing for an appearance in the Broadway revival of "The Rocky Horror Show."
