SummerSlam, one of WWE's major annual events, will span two nights for the second consecutive year. The wrestling spectacle is set to take place at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. Events will commence at 6 p.m. ET on both Saturday and Sunday, with multiple championships scheduled for defense across the weekend.
Championship Matches and Grudge Rematches
In a high-stakes bout for the Undisputed WWE Championship, CM Punk will face Cody Rhodes. The tension between the two wrestlers escalated, culminating in a physical confrontation on the go-home SmackDown show. Punk became champion after defeating Sami Zayn, ending Zayn's nine-day reign. Rhodes, who was pinned by Zayn, has now set his sights on Punk's title.
Liv Morgan will defend her Women's World Championship against Iyo Sky. Morgan, who became champion after defeating Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42, faces Sky, the winner of the Queen of the Ring tournament who defeated Morgan in the final. Morgan had previously told Fox News Digital that she was "everyone’s dream match."
Key Non-Championship Bouts
A significant non-championship match will feature Oba Femi taking on Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell contest. Femi has deferred his King of the Ring title opportunity to face Lesnar in what is described as a trilogy fight. The bout is anticipated to be one of the weekend's major attractions.
Another notable matchup will pit veteran wrestlers against newer talent. The team of Nikki Bella, Brie Bella, and Paige will face Fatal Influence, consisting of Jacy Jayne, Lainey Reid, and Fallon Henley. Reid and Henley recently captured the women's tag team titles from Brie Bella and Paige.
The Bloodline's Internal Struggles
A six-man tag team match will see LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Royce Keys confront The Bloodline, featuring Jacob Fatu, Jey Uso, and Jimmy Uso. Sikoa has indicated he wants no part of The Bloodline, despite attempts by Fatu and the Usos to bring him back into the family fold. Knight has been in conflict with The Bloodline for years, with Keys now also drawn into the ongoing feud.
Other Notable Matches
In a singles contest, Gunther is set to face Nick Aldis. This bout marks Aldis's first match in nearly three years, following a career that included being a decorated world champion before injuries led him to a different role. Aldis and Gunther have been in conflict since Gunther attacked Aldis backstage at Night of Champions, stemming from Gunther's accusations that Aldis had sidelined him. Aldis has since been cleared to challenge Gunther at SummerSlam.
