WWE Alum Eva Marie Finalizes Divorce, Cites Transactional Marriage
The "Total Divas" star opens up about her divorce from Jonathan Coyle and the personal growth that led to its finalization.
Natalie Eva Marie, known for her time in WWE, has officially finalized her divorce from Jonathan Coyle. The reality television personality shared details of the split with Page Six, describing their marriage as having become primarily a "transactional business relationship."
Marie's divorce was finalized in August 2025, nearly a year after it began the legal process. She explained that the duration felt longer due to the various steps involved, including selling their marital home in Texas and other administrative tasks. "You have your initial process of filing and then figuring it out. Then you’re going through lawyers and all this stuff," Marie stated. "So it feels like it’s not really surreal to me because I had to also sell the [marital house in Texas] and do all of these other little things to really solidify on paper that we were technically divorced."
The 42-year-old expressed gratitude that she and Coyle, 44, did not have children together, as this would have complicated the divorce further. "My compassion towards anybody going through it, regardless if you’re amicable or not, it’s just a lot of stuff that you don’t really think about," she added. A significant step in her personal journey was reclaiming her maiden name, which she described as a difficult but necessary process to "solidify this new chapter and this new beginning of [her] life."
Marie filed for divorce in December 2024, citing that the couple had been separated since October 2023 after 10 years of marriage. She described the reasons for the breakup as a "combination of many things," attributing the shift in their relationship partly to her career changes and personal development. After two separate stints in WWE, Marie focused on her recovery from addiction, co-hosting the "Hopeaholics" podcast and opening the NEM Recovery Center in Laguna Beach, California, in 2023. This redirection, coupled with turning 40, prompted an "aha moment" that led her to re-evaluate her marriage.
Comparing her union to her parents' 53-year marriage, Marie realized her relationship with Coyle lacked the deep emotional connection she desired. "I really felt like Jonathan and I were doing a disservice to one another because we just had a very transactional business relationship. We got along, we were totally best of buddies, but that’s not really what a marriage is, nor should it be, nor is that what I wanted it to be," she said.
When asked about the current state of her relationship with Coyle, Marie described their terms as neither close nor adversarial. "I wish him well — over there. … There’s no real bad blood in me, but it’s not like we’re best friends or I’m calling him up," she clarified.
Despite their past, Marie holds no resentment towards her time in WWE or the reality show "Total Divas," which documented their relationship and wedding. She feels grateful for that period, as it contributed to her personal growth and allowed her to connect with an audience who related to her story. Marie indicated she would consider returning to wrestling or reality television but is currently focused on a new business venture called Passes, a subscription-based social media platform for creators.
She is also auctioning off a memorable pink outfit worn at SummerSlam 2021, with a portion of the proceeds going to her rehab facility to support others seeking treatment. Marie views this as a "full-circle moment."
