Mark Teixeira, a former World Series champion and MLB star, has won election to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Texas' 21st Congressional District. He will succeed Republican Rep. Chip Roy, who did not seek re-election.
Teixeira, who played for the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers during his 14-year career, won the Republican primary in March with over 61% of the vote. According to preliminary results with 99% of votes counted, Teixeira secured 54.52% of the vote in the general election, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook, who garnered 45.48%.
"Tonight’s victory belongs to the people of Texas’s 21st District. I’m not going to Washington for myself, but rather to be a strong, responsive voice for every family in this district," Teixeira posted on X. "Together, we can build a better future for our families, our neighbors, and every community across Texas 21. I’m excited to get to work. I will be praying for all of you and for the future of this great nation. God bless Texas, and God bless America."
Teixeira, a three-time All-Star, retired from baseball and returned to Texas with his family. He expressed gratitude to his family, friends, campaign staff, and supporters, stating, "I am truly grateful to all of you. And of course, I want to thank all of the voters across the district who placed their trust in me. Nobody will work harder to continue earning that trust."
With 409 home runs in his MLB career, Teixeira's transition to politics marks a new chapter. He is also expected to participate in the Congressional Baseball Game.
