Woman Warned of 'Red Flag' Relationship After Boyfriend Tracks Her Location
Online commenters urged a young woman to leave her boyfriend after she shared text messages revealing his controlling behavior.
A 21-year-old woman has sparked concern online after sharing details of her relationship, where her boyfriend tracks her movements and requests photo verification of her activities. The woman, who has been with her 22-year-old boyfriend for nearly two years, described feeling "smothered" by his incessant need to know her whereabouts.
She explained on Reddit that her boyfriend's behavior escalated after a month-long break they took to focus on themselves, which she described as a "rough year for our relationship." While she shares her location with him for safety reasons, she expressed a desire for more personal space.
"My boyfriend micromanages everything I do," she wrote, noting that she does not understand the change in his demeanor, as she has never been unfaithful.
In one instance shared via text messages, the boyfriend questioned her absence from their apartment. When she replied that she was getting lunch at a cafe to relax, he asked her to send a picture of her coffee. After she complied, he commented, "Looks delicious." Shortly after, when she stated she was turning off her phone to journal, he suggested she put it on airplane mode instead.
The Reddit post garnered over 5,400 comments, with many users identifying the boyfriend's behavior as a significant red flag. "What do you mean he didn’t ‘let’ you turn your phone off? Turn your phone off if you want to," one commenter stated. "As soon as you start saying ‘let’ in a relationship, it’s over."
