A woman is suing Victoria Police, alleging a former officer used the state's CCTV systems to monitor her during their relationship. Lisa Lewis, 44, has filed a civil suit in the Supreme Court of Victoria, claiming damages for alleged breaches of privacy and harassment.
Sam Hansen, who was an active member of Victoria Police in 2024, is accused of accessing and sharing police information. Ms. Lewis made an official complaint to police in April 2025, leading to Hansen's charging with accessing and sharing police information. He has been stood down from his duties and transferred to a different unit pending the investigation.
Court documents state that on New Year's Day of the previous year, Hansen allegedly showed Ms. Lewis live CCTV footage of Geelong using police information systems. The suit also claims Hansen used the surveillance system to watch Ms. Lewis as she attended an event in Southbank, Melbourne, communicating his surveillance to her at the time.
Ms. Lewis's lawyers assert that Hansen's alleged actions were unauthorized, not related to his duties, and were performed maliciously with the intent to breach her privacy, cause harm or harassment, and inflict mental distress. Her legal team also criticizes Victoria Police for a purported breach of its duty of care and failure to properly supervise its employees.
Ms. Lewis, who previously gained public attention in 2006 for streaking at a rugby match and later for her work as a topless newsreader, met Hansen on Tinder in November 2024. She told the Daily Mail that she disclosed her work as a sex worker to Hansen early in their relationship, and he stated it did not bother him due to his experience as a police officer. She described the relationship as progressing quickly, with Hansen showering her with gifts and sharing details of his work.
When their relationship soured, Ms. Lewis reported Hansen to his superiors. She stated that after months of waiting, she feared the matter was not being taken seriously by police leadership, prompting her to pursue legal action.
Hansen is due to appear in Wyndham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, facing charges related to accessing and sharing police information. A spokesperson for Victoria Police stated that it is not appropriate to comment on the matter as it is before the court.
