A woman was shot by New York City police officers on Monday afternoon in Times Square after she allegedly stabbed two individuals and then advanced on officers with two knives, according to authorities.
The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue. Police described the woman as emotionally disturbed. The two victims, a man and a woman, were stabbed before the suspect fled north towards an NYPD substation.
At the substation, officers confronted the woman, who was armed with two knives. Police initially deployed a Taser, but the suspect continued to approach the officers, leading them to open fire, according to officials.
All three individuals—the two stabbing victims and the suspect—were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Authorities have stated that the incident is not believed to be terror-related. The area around West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue was cordoned off, and police warned of significant traffic delays. It was not immediately clear if any officers were injured during the confrontation. Police were expected to hold a news conference later on Monday.
