Woman Sexually Assaulted at Knifepoint in Central Park
Suspect remains at large after a knife-wielding man forces a 39-year-old woman into the park and sexually assaults her.
A 39-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in New York City's Central Park on Saturday night, and police are searching for the suspect.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. near East 66th Street and Fifth Avenue. According to reports, a man armed with a knife approached the woman, threatened her, and then forced her into Central Park, where the assault took place.
A passerby witnessed the events and called 911, prompting the suspect to flee deeper into the park. Police and paramedics responded to the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators describe the suspect as a man dressed in black, from head to toe, and carrying a black backpack. He was last seen running westbound.
Residents expressed concern following the attack. One local man, who was walking his dog in the park shortly before the incident, described the area as usually safe but admitted unease about loved ones walking alone at night. Another resident noted that while she had not personally felt unsafe, she had heard warnings that the park becomes more dangerous after dark.
Police spent the night searching the area for evidence but had not made an arrest by Sunday morning. The investigation is ongoing.
