Woman Sexually Assaulted at Knifepoint in Central Park
A man approached a woman with a knife and assaulted her in Central Park on Saturday night, according to the NYPD.
A woman was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in Central Park on Saturday night, the New York Police Department reported. The incident occurred near East 67th Street and Fifth Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when a man brandishing a knife approached the victim.
The woman was taken to a local hospital and is currently in stable condition. The assailant fled the scene wearing a black sweatshirt and pants, carrying a black backpack. As of Saturday night, no arrests had been made.
The attack has unsettled residents near the park. "It’s very concerning for a very great area of New York City, and I’m uneasy with my fiancé walking her dog at night," said local resident Davis Defore. He added that he had been in the park walking his dog shortly before the incident.
Another resident, Valentina Mizrahi, who has lived in the neighborhood for three years, noted that her mother had recently cautioned her about walking alone at night due to safety concerns, referencing a conversation with a doorman at a nearby hotel.
